Clothes and Shoes Shopping
If you’re serious about turning your finances around, then spending on clothes and shoes at the rate you are currently doing so threatens to undermine your strategy.
We all like to look good but now is the time to take a fresh look at the way you dress, shop for clothes and shoes and start making some serious savings.
A good first step is to have a thorough overhaul of your wardrobe and see if you can organise it in a more effective way. Be honest when you have a look through; many of us have far more clothes than we ever actually wear. The added bonus of having a less cluttered wardrobe is that you can see the clothes you do like and that fit far better and start coordinating outfits with a fresh pair of eyes from the range you already have.
If you have items that are mistakes you wish you’d never bought, things that don’t fit anymore or you simply have gone off them, try selling those in good condition on ebay or other trading sites. You can either use the proceeds to make further headway towards your financial objectives or put them towards new items you do really need.
Shop around more for clothes– if you have got your heart set on a particular item or do need an item of clothing or footwear, then have a good look online and see if you can find it at a more competitive rate. Don’t be tempted by sale items unless it is something you actually need – impulsive sales shopping can leave you sobering up when the credit card bill comes. However much a bargain it may have seemed at the time, the money saved is a distant memory compared to the pressing need to pay it off.
Clothes swopping parties or ‘swishing’ as some call it has become increasingly popular during tougher times; the idea is to invite a few friends around and hang some of your unwanted clothes around the room, enjoy a sociable evening and then make a move on the outfit you’d like to take home instead of the one you bring to the party.
Charity shops can a good source of clothing and some even have their own charity online clothing outlet – for example have a look at the clothes and accessories pages on Oxfam.org.uk for good quality, brand new high street, vintage style and previously owned designer outfits at competitive prices.
